CREATION PROCESS
Creating the Dok Phikoun Jewelry is a very strenuous, intense labor of love art form. Each individual unique piece is handcrafted, hand cut and handwoven. One piece of jewelry can take up to several weeks to make. The Dok Phikoun flower is the ancient motif and centerpiece of our jewelry. To create this flower, we hand run our silver through a flattener until it becomes a fine silver wire, then we hand feed the wire through a spindle to create the petals to the flower. As the center of the flower is being melted, the spiral has to be uniformly cut by hand to be adjoined with the centerpiece. Every handmade Dok Phikoun piece has that attention to detail. Each piece has a story and is truly unique in its very own way. What makes the Dok Phikoun flower so culturally important to our people goes back to ancient times. The Dok Phikoun flower that grows in our gardens represents good luck and prosperity. The essence of that meaning was why the Lao Royalty in ancient times took inspiration from the flower and created a unique handmade motif of jewelry to adorn themselves with. They believed that whomever wears it, will receive the same blessings that comes with it. The Dok Phikoun flower and its inspired jewelry has also been used in ceremonies and blessings/offerings at temples from ancient times to present day.
